Get it right and your peptide works as intended. Get it wrong and you've wasted money on a degraded compound that won't do what it's supposed to. Here's how to do it properly every single time.
What Does Reconstitution Mean?
Most peptides arrive as a lyophilised powder — a freeze-dried form that's stable for storage and shipping. Before you can inject a peptide, you need to add a liquid to dissolve the powder back into solution. That process is called reconstitution.
Think of it like instant coffee — the powder is stable on the shelf, but you need to add water before you can use it. The difference is that with peptides, the type of water you use, how you add it, and how you store it afterwards all matter significantly.
What You Need
Before you start, make sure you have everything ready. Working with peptides requires a clean, organised setup — fumbling around for supplies mid-reconstitution increases the risk of contamination.

- Alcohol swabs

Bacteriostatic Water vs Sterile Water — Why It Matters
This is where most beginners make their first mistake. There are two types of water used for reconstitution and they are not interchangeable.
Bacteriostatic water (BAC water) contains 0.9% benzyl alcohol. This preservative prevents bacterial growth over time, which means your reconstituted peptide stays safe for multiple injections over several weeks. This is what you should use for any peptide you'll draw from more than once.
Sterile water contains no preservative. Once you puncture the vial, there's nothing stopping bacteria from growing. Sterile water is only appropriate for single-use vials that will be used entirely in one injection.
For virtually every peptide protocol — BPC-157, TB-500, Ipamorelin, CJC-1295, Semaglutide, and others — bacteriostatic water is the correct choice. If you're drawing multiple doses from a single vial over days or weeks, BAC water is non-negotiable.
Step-by-Step Reconstitution
Step 1 — Wash your hands. Basic hygiene but critically important. You're working with something you're going to inject. Clean hands, clean surface, clean process.
Step 2 — Swab the vial tops. Use an alcohol swab to wipe the rubber stopper on both your peptide vial and your bacteriostatic water vial. Let them air dry for 10 seconds. This kills any surface bacteria before you puncture.
Step 3 — Draw the bacteriostatic water. Using a clean syringe, draw the amount of BAC water you need. The amount depends on your dosing preference — more water means a more diluted solution which can make measuring smaller doses easier. Common reconstitution volumes are 1ml or 2ml of BAC water per vial.
Step 4 — Add the water slowly. This is the most important step. Insert the syringe needle into the peptide vial through the rubber stopper and aim the needle at the inside wall of the vial — not directly onto the powder. Slowly depress the plunger and let the water trickle down the side of the vial.
Never squirt the water directly onto the powder. The force can damage the peptide structure and reduce potency. Slow and gentle down the wall is the correct technique.
Step 5 — Let it dissolve naturally. Do not shake the vial. Do not swirl it aggressively. Gentle rotation is fine if needed — tilt the vial slowly back and forth a few times. Most peptides will dissolve within a few minutes on their own. If there are still visible particles after 10 minutes of gentle swirling, leave it in the fridge and check again in 30 minutes.
Step 6 — Label and store. Once fully dissolved, write the reconstitution date on the vial with a permanent marker. Store the reconstituted peptide in the fridge at 2–8°C. Most peptides are good for 28–30 days once reconstituted. After that, potency degrades and the risk of bacterial contamination increases even with BAC water.
How Much Bacteriostatic Water to Add
This depends on the peptide concentration and your preferred dosing volume. Here's a simple framework:

Common Mistakes That Destroy Your Peptide
Squirting water directly onto the powder. This is the most common mistake and the most damaging. Always aim for the vial wall, never the powder. The force denatures the peptide chains and reduces effectiveness.
Shaking the vial. Peptides are fragile molecular structures. Aggressive shaking breaks those structures apart. If you need to mix, gentle rotation only.
Using sterile water instead of BAC water for multi-dose vials. Without the benzyl alcohol preservative, bacteria will grow in the vial between uses. This is a genuine health risk, not just a potency issue.
Leaving reconstituted peptides at room temperature. Once reconstituted, peptides must be refrigerated. Room temperature accelerates degradation. Even a few hours out of the fridge can meaningfully reduce potency.
Not labelling your vials. If you're running multiple peptides — BPC-157, TB-500, Ipamorelin — and they're all in identical 3ml vials with clear liquid, you need to know which is which. Unlabelled vials lead to dosing errors. Write the compound name and reconstitution date on every single vial.

- Light: Away from direct light. Some peptides are light-sensitive. The fridge handles this naturally.
- Timeline: Use within 28–30 days of reconstitution. Mark the date on the vial.
- Organisation: Keep reconstituted vials together, labelled, in a dedicated storage system. Knowing exactly what's in each vial and when it was reconstituted eliminates guesswork at injection time.
